Maya has been writing and memorizing poems from a very early age. Her favorite children’s books were Penelope Proddow’s translation of Demeter and Persephone: Homeric Hymn Number Two, Jonathan Landaw’s Prince Siddhartha: The Story of Buddha, and anything by Barbara Helen Berger. As a teenager, Maya fell in love with the short story form. In college, she studied creative writing and literature. As a young mother, Haiku was all she had time for. Maya is currently working on a few different children’s book ideas. In a departure from short forms, she is also writing a historical novel.
